Kabhi Sweet Kabhi Salty
In 2016, as the official sponsor of the IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Britannia wanted to create ads featuring their key players. The shers (couplets) were written by Swanand Kirkire and the creative team from Lowe Bangalore. The films featured the charm of Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers’ accented Hindi, with Virat Kohli leading the performances in a Mughal garden setting.
A major challenge was the limited 8-hour shoot window with the cricketers. Pre-lighting and a two-camera setup helped us create time efficiencies. Eventually, we wrapped up the shoot with an hour to spare from our stipulated 8 hours.
Sonali Bhatia designed a scaled down Mughal garden set, constructed in Mumbai and transported to Bengaluru. Precise planning ensured it would fit any banquet hall, adapting to last-minute location changes. The knocked down set was reassembled at a Bangalore Hotel’s reception hall, a day before the shoot.
Despite tight deadlines, the quirky sweet and salty shers (couplets) captured the public’s attention with their charm and creativity.
